In the last couple of days I've noticed that the iPhone is starting to "hang" while I'm typing and email. The Big Letters which verify you which key you're hitting stop popping up for a several seconds. Then it continues and the typing catches up.
When this first happened I was pausing and waiting for it.. sometimes hitting the same key over and over.. then when it un-hangs, all those letters would quickly "type" onto my email.
I finally figured out that if you just keep typing as if nothing happened it will "cache" the keystrokes. Then when it un-hangs, whatever you typed will catch up with you, even correcting words that were previously mistyped along the way. Last night this was happening quite a lot and I was unable to type enough to fill the cache.
While it's "technically" fine because it doesn't lose any keystrokes, it's so annoying that most people will be stumped by it. It takes jedi-like focus to keep typing with no audio or picture feedback that it's getting your keystrokes.

did you try resetting the phone? push top and front button for 8 secs.. also, under 'general' settings, there is a box marked reset dictionary... you might tap that to make the cache smaller...

I tried the reset where you hold down the home key for a few seconds but couldn't get the reboot to work (holding both the home button and the off button). The reboot just kept doing a normal turn off sequence.
In the morning after being off all night and a new charge it seemed to be back to normal. But of course now its doing it again (right now). It does feel like a memory issue or needing to clear a cache. I'm not going to clear my keyboard cache just yet and see if its related to something else.

I've had this happen a couple of times and each time the iPhone was checking/downloading mail. I think if you get mail with attachments, the iPhone has trouble saving the attachments to flash and accessing the typing database at the same time. Try reducing how often it checks for mail and see if it that helps...

Nope.. I don't think it was checking mail because it was set to manually. But it's a possibility. I'll look for that. But for me when it happens it keep happening and is very repeatable. If I ever get a chance I will try to film it.
It hasn't done it much lately, but it still happened a little but the other day. It happens when I'm typing a long email. It's always been in the mail app. It just feels like lag.
