reader badweasel discovered: I found out that the "video not in the right format to play on the iphone" message that you get in itunes can be fixed by selecting the videos and choosing "Convert Selection for iPod" in the Advanced menu. It can take a while to convert the video and of course it will then exist 2 (or possibly 3) times on your hard drive in different versions and places. But then it can be sync-ed to the iPhone.

I've spent most of the day trying to get a movie with sound to play on my new iPhone. I can get the movie, sometimes, but not the sound. Any suggestions?

First of all, make sure the mute button (above the volume buttons) is off... next, make sure you have the volume turned up.... if neither of those help, make sure the video and audio components of your files fall within the required specs for iPhone audio and video: (you can see what format your move is by playing it in quicktime and selecting 'show movie info' and/or 'show movie properties' from the 'window' menu. In the latest version of quicktime there is now an iphone export option (this is true for the mac, i am not certain about the PC) Also, certain AVI files are what is called 'muxed', which basically means the audio and video are mixed into one file, and will not export sound correctly. If your files are muxed, you would need a separate program (quicktime cannot do it...) to demux the files before exporting to an iPhone appropriate format. good luck
